Crews and Ships Met

Post by AvastMH »

Please mention any names of ships seen, or met, or gamed with. It is possible that a nearby ship may have a latitude and longitude for that small area of sea, but that is missing from this ship's log. Equally this ship might provide the position of those other ships.

Not all logs provide a crew list. You might find names in the log to post here.

Quite often you will see the name of another Captain in a log book and usually the other ship will be named, but not always so.
Here is a fascinating volume of the Whaling Masters, Voyages 1731-1925. The 'replacement' masters listing at the far end of the volume is interesting too.

Might be my memory playing tricks. I'm sure that I saw Frank Butler being discharged from the Herriman

I spotted this in the Navarch 1892-1896 logbook: 9th August 1895
'Saw Bark Triton discharged the 4th mate Mr Butler and also Frank Butler Boatsteerer'

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
However earlier in the same Navarch trip:
6th July 1894 [...] this day made a boatsearer out of Frank Butler
and
4th September 1894 [...] Saw whales waist boat went on boatsteerer Hary Hooked and the irons drew took boasteerer out boat John Silver by Name and Put F Butler in his Place
