The Senatorial Committee and such officers of the vessel as could be spared went on shore at 4:15 to witness a drive and killing of seals.

At 11:00 Senatorial Committee and party returned on board.

6 to 8pm
Vessel rolling deep. Wash basin in forward room, CPO quarters broken.

Smoke stack on fire several times during watch.

8am to 4pm
Com'd'g Officer of this vessel called on the Admiral of the N.P Squadron. The Admiral of the N.P Squadron called on this vessel and the Senatorial party : upon departure was accorded the usual honors and a salute. Senatorial Party called on Admiral of N.P Squadron.

Senatorial party left vessel for trip to Captains Harbor.

On request of Com'd'g Officer USS Rush - transferred one Boatswain's Call, silver, for use of Boatswain - to that vessel to replace one lost overboard on passage.

Senatorial Party returned.

witness hauling of seines.

Senatorial Party went ashore at 1100 and visited Kodiak Village and Mission School on Wood Island.
Sent fishing party to beach with seine for fish.
1800 Senatorial Party returned.

11:00 Stopped off Valdez. Sent an officer with Col. Ransdell to communicate with committee on shore.
11:50 boat returned with Reception Committee.
12:00 Reception Committee of Valdaz left ship. Senator Nelson, with party, left vessel for trip inland.
14:30 Senatorial Committee left vessel for Valdaz.
18:00 Senatorial Committee returned.

At 1000 Commanding Officer and Senatorial Party paid an official visit on Commanding Officer at Fort Liscum,
afterwards visiting Valdez.

In PM aired bedding and allowed part of crew to go ashore for berries.

1700 liberty party returned. Recd. from Valdez Market 144 lbs. fresh meat for general mess.

By order of Com'd'g Officer confined A. Newman, seaman, in brig for insolence and insubordination.

Upon releasing A. Newman, sea., from brig and
directing him to turn to, he refused to obey, and
by direction of Com'd'g Officer, put him back in
brig on diet of bread and water for a period of five
days.
[You have to wonder about this guy. They just got back to Seattle.]


At 9:00 Mustered officers and crew, (officers
in dress uniform), Senatorial Committee and
party left vessel. Broke out national ensign at
fore and fired salute of 17 guns.
