19 July
2:10 sighted small sail craft on port beam making signal
of distress, Stopped and waited for her to come along side. She
proved to be an otter boat belonging to Japanese sealing
schooner Sifu Maru, of Hakodate, and contained three
men, A Burtz of Victoria, B.C., hunter, and two Japanese,
Y. Takaki and T Kikuchi, both of Hakodate. They had two
seal skins, taken Friday, and two shot guns with ammunition.
They left vessel Friday morning (17th inst.) and were lost in
fog. When picked up had enough food remaining for one
meal and about one gallon of fresh water. Took them onboard
served them a ration each. Hoisted their boat and at 2:30
ahead on course.

24 July

Received from SS St Paul, of Alaska Commercial Co., 149 lbs fresh beef for general mess.

Commanding Officer received telegram from S-at-A Ransdell, stating that senatorial party would arrive Monday night next, and be ready to proceed Tuesday morning.

Colonel Ransdell is Sargent-at-Arms for the US Senate: https://www.senate.gov/about/officers-s ... nsdell.htm

Do you wonder what he does as Sargent-at-Arms (in addition to the above)?
