Each log writer is likely to have a peculiar writing style and spelling system. In the most exaggerated cases the spelling of one word may vary even in the entry for one day.
If you find oddities please do post them here to help other viewers working with this project.
Help with images
If you want to query/show some text please supply the page reference (the reference changes as you view the middle of a page), and an image of the text would also be helpful. Help for manipulating/posting images can be found in Guide to posting links and images. If you have any problems with imaging please ask for help below.
Remember - Always TYPE WHAT YOU SEE, just as they wrote it. If you are unsure of a word, you can post a question to this page and ask for help. If just one letter of a word is not readable you can insert a tilde mark ~ in place of a single letter.

Re: Handwriting Help and Spelling
General writing style
Mr Allen tends to start all lines with a capital letter. Sentences do not always start with a capital letter.
Letters
Capital D
Looks like the number 4 at times e.g. 'Deck' in the entry for the 15th March 1893:
and 'Doing' in the entry for the 16th March:
Capital F
Almost exactly the same as T, but has the bar across the middle. Here are T and F together in the entry for Friday 17th March:
Capital T
Looks like a 'G' at times, for example the start of the words 'Thursday' and 'This' in the entry for 16th March:
Capital G
For comparison with the letter T (see above) also in the entry for 16th March. I can almost look like the letter P at times:
Numbers
Number 5
This can look like 3 so check carefully.
4th April:
The top stroke of the '5' is away from the downstroke, the number then almost looks like '3'
Another example:
5th April:
Highlighted, in order, are the numbers 5, 3, (Lat) 59, (Long minutes) 53.
Number 6 can look like 4
16th March
14th March
