Hope you are all on the mend. My only bit of advice is not to rush back to 'normal' but recover gently.

From the Washington Post:
Experts say the new BA.2.86 variant requires intense monitoring and vigilance that many of its predecessors did not. That’s because it has even greater potential to escape the antibodies that protect people from getting sick, even if you’ve recently been infected or vaccinated. There have only been about a dozen cases worldwide of the new variant. It is not yet known if it will be transmissible enough to cause a surge.

I'm back upright and trying to function today. The cough will NOT quit, but I seem to be improving otherwise. I will say definitely continue masking because whatever variant this is that we got has been rough going. I could curse my dad's stupid boss for forcing them all to be in-person again and spreading this.

The first couple days I had some pretty severe bodily pain and one of the worst fevers I can recall. Lots of dizziness and shortness of breath that comes and goes for several days. Right now I'm still not back to eating like normal but at least I feel hungry again.

And thank you to everyone for your well wishes! :D

For over three weeks now I have been testing positive.

How do you know if you have the new BA.2.86 variant?

No aches or pains just a sniffly nose.

Do we know the tests are accurate for the new variants? It's almost like a new disease.
Hope you are up and about soon, Stuart!

I had Covid early this summer and continued to test positive after the symptoms (except for weakness) had gone away. I was assigned a nurse who specialized in working with Covid patients. She said that one of the problems with the home tests is that they continue to give false positive results after you have recovered and are no longer contagious, because your body still has the antigens for which they are testing. She said that as soon as my fever was normal and the symptoms had passed I was no longer contagious, but should continue to wear a mask around other people for a week or so as a precaution.

The current variants seem to last about a week for most people. I had a fever for three days and then gradually the symptoms went away over the next few days. I continued to test positive, but the nurse said ignore the test results if I my fever was gone and I was feeling okay. It did take a few weeks to gradually get my strength back.

I just remembered that she said to wait a week after my temperature returned to normal before going out with a mask, as long as the symptoms had also gone away.
