Log Pages for Transcribing - apply here!

Post by AvastMH »

The log book of the Thomas Pope 1884 has been completed
Here is a list of the other whaling ships - please feel welcome to choose another voyage to the Arctic :)

If you would like to work on a section of the log please
  • leave a note in the next available reply section of this board below
  • remember to say which section you would like to work on
  • a link to the workbook, for your transcriptions, will be provided to you by personal message
  • let us know if you would rather work in Excel, LibreCalc, or Google Sheets
  • each section of the log must be transcribed by three different transcribers
Where to start once I have my log section and workbook?
Please ensure that you read these information pages before transcribing
  1. Transcribing: capturing the log details, and information resources
  2. Transcribing: managing your recording workbook
Dates are in the format YYYYMMDD. Links to log book pages are shown in blue
Interesting format - like a Govt ship although less formal

Notes:
1884 June 2nd - civil time
1884 June 3rd - 'Seatime'

Enter Lat DR into the Remarks column as: [Lat Dr;degrees minutes Compass point] use a simple space between the degrees, minute and compass point just as you would in the primary worksheet. Bracket in square brackets. Enter a semicolon after 'Lat DR'

When approaching, near, in, just past, ice, note changes in direction. You do not need to note the knots.

Thank you for your help :D
