A23a: World's biggest iceberg on the move after 30 years

The journalist is having issues converting square kilometres and miles. He has the size at 4,000 sq km, but it's really 400 sq km.

Noon : Lat 10° 14' 00"N, Long 57° 40' 00"E
At 7 o'Clock P.M., dark, Weather cloudy, and starlight at times, between hour of , , the sea changed to pure white, flaming color all around, resembling snow. This appearance of the sea continued two nights in succession, appearing immediately after dark. An examination of the water showed a great number of globular bodies about the size of a pin's head, each emitting a phosphoric light.

At 8:30 PM, a brilliant meteor crossed the sky to the Wd. Exploding a short distance from the ship with an audible report & lighted up the entire sky.

Kearsarge Sept 30th 1890, Colon panama.
2345hrs.
A water spout formed bearing NNE from the ship and close in shore
At first it formed a thick vertical column and after breaking
reformed in a thin curved column rapidly changing direction in ???
The sea was considerably disturbed the noise being plainly heard
on the ship.

At 10.50[pm] saw an areolite [aerolite] to the N.W., which exploded with a noise heard on board, at about 45 degrees from the horizon showing all the colors of the rainbow.

Meteors seen on clear evenings (few) from July 26, 1872 - Aug 10, 1872 in Pacific Ocean. Lackawanna sailing toward Yokohama, Japan. Nearest landmark post meteor shower is Lots Wife. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lot%27s_Wife_(crag)
Likely the Perseid Meteor showers although peaking earlier in 1872 than today (peak August 12 - 13).
