On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances (nautical miles and tenths), courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea column.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.

See Sacramento: general for some general background and discussion.
See Sacramento: examples for a quick introduction to transcribing or a refresher.

See Transcribing Guide to learn how to transcribe the data.

:D :D :D

There is a certain satisfaction each time one finishes a month. The best part is when the year is done and you get to see a plot of where your ship has been.

I have finished transcribing the Weather and Event pages for the USS Sacramento for March 1924 (events which happened 100 years ago this month!).

I will reserve and start transcribing the Weather and Event pages for April 1924.

It looked like the logbook pages were not available for April 1924 so I won't be doing April.

The pages for April are available.
The problem is that the spreadsheet has the wrong page number value for the last page.

The bad news: The entry in the URL_List was incorrect. The last file is 165, not 84.
The good news: I have fixed the entry, and the spreadsheet has been uploaded to the usual place.

Go for it! :D :D :D

The voyage for 1924 has been completed. bohara did a masterful job. There were pages that were upside down, pages that were so faint they were extremely difficult to read, pages out of order. So much for typed logs being easier than hand-written ones. There were many ships mentioned, lots and lots and lots of course changes and dozens of new places, almost 100 in all.

You can see a plot of the voyage here and, for more details, you can download the KML file and view it with Google Earth. There were a few mentions of people here.

These are the weather statistics for this voyage:
