Manning 1916 was transcribed during an earlier phase of Old Weather, but at that time we were not as interested in location information.
Consequently, it is not necessary to transcribe the weather data and we only need weather pages that have distances and courses and event pages that have sailing information or ice.

On the weather page, when that are at sea at least part of the time, please enter: date, locations, distances, courses.
It is not necessary to record State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea column.

On the events page, when that are at sea at least part of the time, please make sure the date is correct and enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date on the weather page will normally be carried over to the corresponding events page, but it should be verified.
The date is used to organize the pages.

See Manning -- General for some general background and discussion.
See Manning -- Examples for a quick introduction to transcribing or a refresher.

See Transcribing Guide to learn how to transcribe the data.

Warning
Don't confuse the "week ending Saturday" date with the "log" date.
I did that — repeatedly

The log date is: 1916 3 20

Just started.
Please check date on events page, only shows Yr and date. (Saved file shows both)
If your happy with it so am I.
I am happy to leave as is as it took me a while to set up pages to suit me.

I have sent up a few pages for you to check.

Looks good to me.

However, I'm not sure what you mean by "Please check date on events page, only shows Yr and date. (Saved file shows both)."

It looks like your column is too narrow.

This voyage they do not seem to like sailing at night.
They get a 4 day late message on the 11th April at Juneau to return to Seattle by the 14th and spend each night tucked up in some harbor or another.
Got back to Bremerton on the 19th after their first overnight voyage for a long time.

Just picked up something with the date on the two pages log book.
If you forget to change the date, and there is NO entries in the weather box just an entry in the Loc box then the warning message does not appear.
Or is it just me?

Stopped to put man over the side to clear WR toilet drain.

Bet there were not many volunteers for that job.

Especially not while in the Bering Sea!

Not sure if he would need to go under the ship or just along side :|

If you're on the Log Page, not the Event Page, and there is no weather, you have to still toggle so you get the weather grid up, even if there are NO weather data to enter. The reason is that having the weather grid activated is the trigger for a new day. Otherwise the system thinks it's just another event page because the event page was continued from the previous one.
