19:10 Slowed down & fired a rocket in answer to a supposed signal, which turned proved to be a brilliant meteor brg North.

0000 During first part of watch observed a brilliant succession of meteoric showers.

The meteor shower on November 28, 1872, was the Andromedids, a result of the Earth passing through the debris stream of the fragmented Comet Biela. This particular display was exceptionally strong, with rates estimated at around 7000 meteors per hour, or roughly 2 per second according to transientsky.com. Observers described the meteors as faint, with "broad and smoke-like" trains and a predominantly orange or reddish color.

A bright meteor of Greenish apperance appeared at altitude of about 20 degrees bearing NW and disappeared at altitude of about 5 degrees bearing NWxN. At 0130 Cape Facardo Lt Bore NWxN.

Exceedingly brilliant meteor seen about 9 P.M. commencing to right of Sirius and passing through Orion, then disappearing near horizon. Two other meteors seen, but not so brilliant; one N.E. and other S.W.

The Noon location of the ship was 9° 18' N, 7° 32' W, averaging about 2 knots to the SE1/2S from Noon to 9PM.
