NARA's catalogue of US ships' logs has been reorganised, which means the scan links in your documents may now take you to a blank page.
The scan links will be updated as soon as possible.

Re: NARA logbooks moved
Thanks for the warning. So far Jamestown's links from the logs are working but if I try to access the hi-res versions I have to set up an account at the Archives which I haven't tried yet.
Re: NARA logbooks moved
Try the following to access USS Jamestown's high resolution pages:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/73/2844/7284473/content/arcmedia/dc-metro/rg-024/581208-noaa/118/jamestown/vol046of067/24-118-jamestown-vol046of067_002.jpg
Dark red = 27 + volume number
Red = 7284427 + volume number
Blue = volume of total volumes (volXXXofYYY)
Green = page number (three digits)

Use this to get the top level link. From there you can get the individual pages.

Re: NARA logbooks moved
Some of the links to log scans on Naval-History.Net are currently not working.
The logs affected are: USS Burton Island, USCGC Chelan, USCGC Eastwind, USCGC Haida, USCGC Northland, USCGC Shoshone, USCGC Storis, and USS Yorktown.
An update will be posted when these are fixed.

Re: NARA logbooks moved
It looks like NARA have moved their storage away from Amazon.
If you open a page, you'll be met with an error message.
Replacing 'https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorag ... rage/live/' with 'https://catalog.archives.gov/medialive/' seems to do the trick, though.
For example:
The old link:

Re: NARA logbooks moved
I came across, or was given by someone like Kevin Wood, a set of Excel spreadsheets that list all the logbooks, whether or not they're scanned, the URLs for those scans, Wikipedia links, links to crew members, etc etc. There are data for 51,591 log books, 8,484 of which have been scanned.
You can get those spreadsheets here. Some of those Excel files are really big, so I saved them as tab separated text files, TSV. I also cut down on the number of fields. This is an example of how the TSV files look:
Some logs have been scanned since the Excel spreadsheets were created, so the list isn't totally up-to-date. These are the data for USS Cyane from the 1800s...
The oceans are pretty generic... NA, NP, SA, SP, AR, IO, IW where AO is Arctic Ocean, IO is Indian Ocean and IW is Inland Waters.
Some of the Excel files are huge to the point of being almost unusable. I think originally there was just one really huge file, and the data for the various types were just tabs in that spreadsheet. These files are very useful for finding what logs have been scanned, and were to find them. I find the TSV files much easier to use than the Excel files, but others might prefer the other format.

Re: NARA logbooks moved
Yeah, I know, I have the same old spreadsheets.
BTW you might want to check the last table you created, some of the links in the 5th column are messed up.
Michael corrected them.

The scan links on NHN have been amended. Thanks Maikel.
