The 'Japan' caught fire and sank off the China coast near Shantou on 17 December 1874, with great loss of life, when on passage from Yokohama to Hong Kong.

The voyage for 1874 has been completed, with many thanks to SleepyOwl and Stuart for their great work. Sadly, the log keeper and other crew weren't even close to the bar set by our two transcribers.
