On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances (nautical miles and tenths), courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea column.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.

At 1:45 PM 1st Sergeant William Lutz, U.S.M.C., died on board.
At 2.15 called all hands bury the Dead and at 2.30 the remains of William Lutz late 1st Sergeant U.S.M.C., were sent ashore for burial escorted by a funeral party consisting of the Band, Firing party o Marines, pall bearers, the 2nd Company of Blue Jackets and a detail of petty officers, all under the Command of Lt. Comdr. Reisinger with Lt. Minett and Lt. Cook in charge of companies, and Carpenter J. G. Filden in charge of boats on the beach. Half-masted the colors upon their embarkation. The colors of the U.S. Consulate were also half-masted.
RIP William Lutz, Sergeant USMC.

At 8:00 we half-masted colors with the Japanese man-of-war and fired 19 guns at intervals of 5 minutes between each gun, folowing the motion of the Japanese man-of-war, in honor of the death of Prince Sanjo.

At 7.45 B Kane (O.S.) while being policed and in single irons escaped from the ship out of the head. Lowered a boat and searched for the escaped prisoner, but failed to find him.
8:00 PM. Sent a reward of ten yen ashore for the apprehension and delivery on board of B. Kane (O.S.).

4 AM to 8 AM
By order of the Comdg Officer confined M. Mortenson (Sea) J. Kelly (P.M.) and G. Gregory (P.M.) in single irons to await action on account of the escape of the prisoner B. Kane (O.S.) while under their charge.
8 PM to Midnight
At 8.15 by order of Comdg. Officer placed Jas. Rocks (C.H.) and W. Jennings (P.M.) in single irons under sentry's charge to await action for being under the influence of liquor on duty. At 8.28 in consequence of a disturbance amongst the prisoners on the berth deck, beat to quarters for muster; found no change in absentees since A.M. muster. The principals concerned in the disturbances W. Jennings (P.M.) and Jas. Rocks (C.H.) were placed in double irons. By order of the Comdg. Officer, J. Kelly (P.M.) was released from confinement and restored to duty for commendable conduct in assisting to quell a disturbance amongst the prisoners, while himself a prisoner.

Heavy, short, following sea. Using oil from both forward water closets under topglt forecastle. Effect of the oil on the water very marked in keeping seas from breaking.

At 11.50 we grounded on the middle ground entering the harbor of San Diego. At 12.11 the tug boat Santa Fe came alongside and assisted in getting the ship afloat, which was accomplished by 12.40. Pilot James Keith came on board from the tug and piloted ship to anchorage. At 12.41 let go stbd anchor. At 12.51 hove up stbd anchor and got under way and stood in for anchorage and at 1.37 let go stbd anchor off coal dock.
