Crew and Ships Met

Post by ggordon »

The 1894-1895 voyage of the California (KWM archive) does have a crew list in the end of the log. There are a few names mentioned in the log that are not on the crew list. You might find additional names in the log as you transcribe, please post those here as well. All information is helpful and it is fun to get to know your crew!

Ships Met - Please note names of ships that they mention during their voyage, a simple list with the date(s) next to it will be fine. This will allow us to cross reference ships' positions. This is very important with this log as the log keeper William Joseph has a wealth of ice knowledge and gives comparisons to a week ago, and even a year or more prior for a location; however, he does not provide much in the way of where precisely the California is as he makes these notations. In this case we have great detailed ice information but we may need to cross reference with other ships to pinpoint her location.

Awww - thanks Michael and Randi :)

On 24th July 1895 poor Mr Peterson had been off duty sick from early on in the voyage. During a trip back into Unalaska they discharge him from the California.

'Capt came on board took J Peterson with his effects and discharged him'
