Re: Science and facts about whales and whaling

That's tremendous news! :D We often get reports of fin whales, or finbacks, in the whaling logs. Usually seen as a useful sign of feed for other whales i.e. bowheads.
They are just a bit smaller than the great Blue Whale (called 'Sulphur Bottoms' in the logs).

April - you are a total whizz - an angel! Thank you so much. I hadn't realized that the Archive had gone quite that mad! :o :D Kate - It's great that April has given you the spreadsheet. There's lots of instructions around but my great hint is - use plenty of rows! When there's a new 'time' use a ro...

Re: Log Pages for Transcribing - apply here!

Hi Kate! Sorry not to get back to you straight away! She's all up for grabs so yes please do help. I'm just off to the Land of Nod so I'll set you up for tomorrow. Have a read through the log. I recall it's one of those 'end of an era' logs because whales were so fished out. You're relieved that the...

:o I never thought of Oz as being a producer of peanuts. Peanut production always brings to mind a picture of Jimmy Carter on his peanut tractor. :?
And are they indeed very fine Australian peanuts? :)

Have a great holiday Chris - good choice to go no-computer! Gets you a proper break, especially after the move :)

Love the picture. Conveys that long distant look that you get when you have to empty your mind and heart of your current ship and scout for a new friend :)

Looks like time for Capt Dog to go for it. 2+6 =8 so onwards to Chemulpho ( does anyone know how this place is properly pronounced please?). Where I owe Chris M24. Please could you transfer the cash from my post to Chris please Mr CFO? 😉 I think that this starts a new round. https://imgur.com/G1vYiP...

Great picture! A standing desk is a nice thought. You can stretch your back a bit whilst whacking in those wonderful weather data, piling in the places, and burrowing through the barometer readings. And your head is that bit closer to the clouds that we so love ☁️🌥️☁️ 😊

He's a good choice for us! Alfred was famous for his navy - a fleet that could give the Vikings a run for their money :D

I think that OW is so much fun, but there's a lot of it, that this system of one-to-one teaching looks good :D
