Both lights are still in existence and present on the lighthouse directory. I've added both to geonames and ofc to our database.
Thanks Ros!

Re: US (non-Alaskan) Place Names -- Discussion
Its definitely an alternate name for Cape Arago Lighthouse... found this 1940 postcard showing "Coos Head Light". The two rocks behind it are easily recognizable as part of that rocky chain going north-northwest from the cape, and the image of the light in the postcard matches with the 194...

Re: US (non-Alaskan) Place Names -- Discussion
Absolutely agree... everything matches, it's in front of Tennessee Point and its a whistling buoy even nowadays (the Bonita Channel Lighted Whistle Buoy No. 2 ). From the map maybe it seems a little to the southeast (2 or 3 nautical miles) of the modern buoy, closer to the 6 fathoms line of the west...

Re: Alaskan Place Names -- Discussion
I've added everything to db. Thanks Ros! I think the Rocky Reef Point alternate name on Laida Rocks is not correct... i'm trying to find out if those rocks were named Rocky Reef, but the point itself should be to the southeast looking at this 1910 map . On that map the rocks have not a name, the poi...

Re: US (non-Alaskan) Place Names -- Discussion
Yeah i completely agree they're referring the light that's actually on the island In this 1910 map , although the print is a little faint, the light is clearly on he islet. In this 1933 airway map the scale is not great but again the light seems to be distant from the land. Best one is perhaps this ...

You're too kind
Don't think there's something as a medal, but I'm a level3 editor if that distinction still exist, which means i can move pretty everything around (most important places, and sensible ones, were locked from edits by newbies and lower level users)

Re: US (non-Alaskan) Place Names -- Discussion
Added to the database and reworked a little the places we had in the bay, Point San Luis was one of the first we added in the database (#126) so it was quite off place and it included the light in its notes, i've now splitted the two.
Thanks gordon!

Re: Canadian Place Names -- Discussion
I've added all to the database. Thanks! Agree with Michael both for Lawson Light being current Herbert Reefs Light and for the gas buoy... there's another candidate north of the shoals, but BC is always a pain for historical maps, so i'd go for the most probable one being our best guess. For Idol Po...

It will be interesting dont worry!
Also i think the east coast is a little less covered in the database, so more chances for adding new places to it!

Re: Alaskan Place Names -- Discussion
Google maps imagery is very indistinct in the area, but fortunately bing maps has good closeups. The light is active (the pdf is from 2024) and present on fishing app nautical chart. I've added Cape Ommaney Light, with Wooden Island Light as an alternate name, both to geonames (position 56.16027, -1...
