Re: Chat

The Northern Lights did not show up all that well in this first photo. There is just too much light in my neighborhood. https://i.imgur.com/84dg997.jpeg Later I went to my backyard where it was darker and got this better photo. https://i.imgur.com/NitP9cQ.jpeg My eyes just saw black, but cell phone ...

Re: Chat

My eyes couldn't see them. Too many city lights. However, I read that cell phone cameras could sometimes see them when human eyes can't. By pointing my phone to the sky with the camera turned on, I could see them in the screen; nice blue, green, and red. I took a couple of photos. I'm busy right now...

Re: US (non-Alaskan) Place Names -- Discussion

I don't know where this crew is coming up with the place names, but here's another one. At 9:55PM this log page, also from 1922, references Coos Head Light. https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/92/6818/23681892/content/dc-metro/rg-026/585454/0002/Haida-1922-03/Haida-1922-03-0023....

For September 16, most of the AM weather data is obscured by an insert. There is no separate image with the insert moved over to the event page. I transcribed the AM values that were visible. All PM weather was visible. https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/dc-metro/rg-024/581208/2020-03/58120...

Well, not returning drunk, but just drunk. Three bottles of whiskey found missing from Medical store...

August is complete. 🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️ 89 days in port now at Callao, Peru. Almost non-stop drizzle and mist the entire time, and still no liberty because the port is in quarantine. The positive to this is that transcribing is fast. Lots of dittos in the data. So making heavy use of copy down an...

July is complete.

Still sitting in port in Callao, Peru. Still no liberty. Still drizzle and mist 24 hours a day, with only a few brief sun breaks all month. It's so tedious that I'm becoming quite irritated, despite sitting here in the comfort of my home. Those poor sailors.

The very logbook on which I'm working has a similar entry, and it would make sense for a Marine Private to be a guard. I thought I remembered a seeing a different abbreviation for the Marine Privates, but not sure about that.
